New York City Witnesses a good Expansion of Amazon Despite Scrapping HQ2

Amazon is going great guns when it comes to expanding in the US popular city New York. It has recently signed a new lease for the office space based on the western side of Manhattan the hot spot for tech companies. This is an attempt to create a second head office based in New York City. Despite scrapping up the HQ2 plan after the voices from the local activists and politicians went high including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D—N.Y.) who strongly objected to the plans of the local authorities of the NY State who were  all set to grant the E-Commerce giant Amazon around  3 billion USD in tax breaks along with adding up several other financial incentives.

Now, we see the company coming out to occupy around 335,000 square feet area at the Hudson Yards close to the city but this time we see things coming out without any financial inducements. However, when we compare this investment with HQ2, it comes out to be very much smaller than the latter. It has envisaged bringing out some of the 25,000 positions to the area. As per the e-commerce giant, Amazon is all set to come out with a new plan that involves around 1,500 roles. As the news came out, the people who opposed HQ2 came out to express their concern over Twitter saying surprising to see Amazon coming to NYC anyway with their shady deals. These things came out in helipad handouts that are seen with Jeff Bezos, & corporate giveaways.”

With this move, Amazon by any hook or crook is willing to tap over the rich pool or technology talents based New York despite facing issues with the HQ2. At the very same time, we are around 700,000 open tech jobs in the U.S. alone claims the reports of a tech industry trade association called CompTIA. The fact of the matter is the tech giants is unable to afford to neglect a few tech hubs including the ones in New York City, which give relatively deep pools of the labor along with the vibrant tech ecosystems.

The other big tech companies are now scaling up in the city as well. Just the last month, we saw the social media giant, Facebook announcing about developing 1.5 million-square-foot campus, and the location is the same – the Hudson Yards. The company is now negotiating with additional space which is under development close to Penn Station. In July, we Google closed a deal worth 1.3 million square feet in the same place Manhattan which will going to develop around 7,000 new jobs in the New York City in the coming next ten years.
