Google, Facebook & Other Tech Companies Support New principles to Fight Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

A new federation of tech companies in the US is seen which is backing all the new principles that are put forth by the government to prevent online child abuse and exploitation. This organization comprises tech giants like Google, Apple and Social media companies like Twitter and Facebook along with others are seen coming together to form an alliance to promote awareness about the program that would prevent kids from sexual exploitation and abuse on a voluntary basis. This would help the industry help to keep intact the needs of the survivors along with safeguarding key features including live streaming.

Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Addressing the press conference, around 11 principles were announced at the Department of Justice office this Thursday afternoon. The reps from the Department of Homeland Security from the US along with other four nations like the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada have together to participate with Mr. William Barr the US Attorney General. While addressing the press conference, the reps from the said companies which also have Microsoft, Roblox and Snap were seen making their presence along with the above-said tech company reps. The reps claimed that they have worked at the global level with WePROTECT Global Alliance that has brought in around 97 governments and 25 tech companies along with 30 civil society organizations, which seemed to be promoting the adoption of the guidelines.

The principles that were released and discussed include several strategies in which companies like Google or Facebook already work using their online platforms. The guidelines demand all these companies embark upon the methods to prevent all the new content that comes for child sexual abuse from becoming accessible on different services. The big companies like YouTube and Facebook seem to have systems in place when it comes to tag and traces various images and videos, which violate their norms and thus prevent them from getting re-uploaded. The principles also talk about combating these issues as per the reports coming from the authorities along with grooming the kids to deal with such issues on the online platform.

It also helps them learn and adopt various child specific safety measurements that further prevent live streaming services that are being used for abusive purposes and so. These often suggest the companies to work along with one another in order to share some vital practices and data when it comes to preventing the future abuse when it comes to spreading the same online. The people in the alliance said that these principles are seen working without the members when it comes to spreading awareness about them and redouble the efforts for bringing out the industry all together when it comes to promoting transparency and thus share the expertise and promote the new technologies to fight various online child sexual exploitation and abuse. However, the guidelines do not instruct the tech based companies about the specific steps that are carried out to stick to the principles but to act as per the guidelines and thus have different types of risk factors as well.
