Facebook Extends Support Human Rights

Facebook is currently making headlines for its policies on supporting human rights. As per reports, Facebook has been working hard towards its global corporate human rights policy so that they can extend more support for human rights.

Instead of having a policy on supporting various rights issues on paper, they are now coming up with their new rules on the content and the new policy, which essentially codifies along with regulating the same about the current practices of Facebook with greater transparency.  In other words, the company is pushing way ahead more than what they did earlier in the domain of supporting various human rights issues. As per the statement, the company has now set up a new policy on human rights norms and claims to strive more in this respect as discussed in the global law as per the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The statement was issued by Miranda Sissons, the director of Human Rights in her blog post. She further added saying that the company will apply three norms to its products, policies and apps along with programming in its overall approach to their business. One of the key critical human rights issues includes the risks towards the freedom of expression. She said that the company will be reporting the same to its board of directors on this issue. Facebook also plans to release a detailed report in their annual public meeting about addressing the human rights concerns with its products or services.

The statement also read that the company plans a new fund for the same which remains undisclosed in public in order to give away the best support to all those who are defending different human rights falling under threat that comes in Asia earlier this year. This will give you the best of the security to different activists and journalists. It also said the company is not planning to build on the current work in order to secure the accounts of the defenders. The efforts the company will bring in would deal with battling the malicious actors thus seen targeting them that end up securing them from removing the improper conthat used for Cross Check giving away the advanced level security options.

Of late, the social media giant has got a tough criticism all across the years for its approach towards human rights as it came when the ban the Myanmar military with the additional pressure. This move has come into the scene only after Facebook’s poor response towards the human rights issues in Myanmar. Talking about the same, Isedua Oribhabor the US policy analyst at the firm Access Now also pointed out about social media’s recent action plan in Australia. Isedua informed how Facebook has blocked a few accounts of civil society groups in the country about their controversial law and thus said how desperately the social media company needs to implement its human rights policy.  She claimed that its high time when the company should have a robust policy towards it especially when Facebook is facing a tough time before its commitments in Human Rights.
